This was insane. What started as a fun idea to do for March Madness blossomed into a full-blown rock’em, sock’em fight-to-the-finish match between a science fiction character and a camel. This marketing campaign started slow (no budget, no ads) on a Thursday, and by the following Friday had been seen by people on every continent (except Antarctica, snobs). In my mind, this is one of the best types of content marketing. It hit a nerve at the right time (March!), it created competition (people love voting for stuff) and it was hilarious in that people were furiously debating which statue was better. It was one of my most stressful weeks, but oh, so worth it.
You know them, you love them, you sometimes wonder “What does a Coke Can have to do with Portage la Prairie?” as you drive by them. And now you can vote for them. Welcome to Roadside Madness! Where 32 of Manitoba’s cool and quirky roadside attractions duke it out to be named the last statue standing. Over the next week, we want you to vote and tell us which is your favourite.
